Welcome to the Taste of Web 2.0 Program
Connect @ your local library

This is a self paced online discovery program spanning six weeks. During this time you will explore a small sampling of the Web 2.0 applications currently available. The program is laid out in two blogs; the main one with the schedule of activities (this one) and a second blog with more detailed instructions on each activity. You will be creating your own blog and on it each week you will be asked to record your thoughts (25-50 words) about the weekly activity.

Equipment Needed

Computer with Internet access
Sound card to listen to podcasts
Headphones if you plan to complete the program in a public area.
Quicktime or Windows Media Player for Videos (you may already have these on your computer)

Module 1: Introduction

1. Create your own blog

Module 2: Online Photosharing

3. Explore Flickr and learn about this and other popular photosharing sites

4. Play around with an online image generator

Module 3: LibraryThing


5. Take a look at LibraryThing and create your own library

Module 4: Podcasts, Video & Downloadable Audio


6. Discover YouTube and other sites that allow users to upload and share videos

7. Learn about Podcasts

8.Take a look at downloadable audio books and YPRL's Overdrive Media

Module 5: Google World


9. Create your own iGoogle home page

10. Play with Google Maps

Module 6: Getting social

11. Explore Myspace

12. Explore Facebook

13. Get a SecondLife

14. Family overseas? Phone costs too high? Try Skype

Angela, you just have to complete the Taste of Web 2.0 course, fill out the evaluation form at the end and you will automatically be in the draw for the ipod.

Just wondering if the competition winners of the blogs has been decided. It would be great to know the winners, also just want to say thanks for the great opportunity you have given to many YPRL members. I have definately learnt a lot!
